gas
« on: June 02, 2009, 06:48:05 PM »

Hi, my name is Terre and I had my lap band surgery on 2/25/09. I have a question and I am at the end of my ropes with this problem. Ever since my surgery I have severe gas. I mean every day and all day long. I don't know what to do about it. I have tried taking beano and other products, has not worked. Tried increasing my fiber, has not worked. I have 2 protein shakes a day and that hasn't worked. I do not know what to do and I would appreciate any advice anyone can give me.

Thanks
Terre

Terre,

This sounds like a good question for Mike to answer. I would give him a call at the WLIAZ.

Did you get an answer? I haven't received the band yet but I'm already really gassy, so I'd like to know what the answer was.

Regina,

The gas being referred to normally occurs after a surgery. It is the gas that is used to inflate the abdomen to assist the surgeons in placing the Lapband. It dissapates over time unusually a week after surgery.

Gas used during surgery is out of the body after several days post surgery. It does not linger for months. However, ongoing gas seems to be a common problem for lapband people, me included. I find that soy makes it worse (makes sense soybeans) and I consume that a lot in the shakes and snacks I use. I decided it is just something we have to live with and deal with the best we can.
